The health of children available for adoption

One of the most important questions potential adoptive parents ask about the health of the children who are available for adoption.

Yesterday, I spoke at length with a lady who, due to unforeseen circumstances, could not become pregnant with a second child. What she wanted to do more than anything was adopt 'a perfectly healthy baby'.  No matter what I said she could not shift from this ideal.

And that is what a 'perfectly healthy baby' in adoption is - an ideal.

The reality of the situation is that children who find themselves berefit of parents suffer in one respect or another.  They are not children who have the best beginning of life. Those born into poverty did not get the best nutrition in utero, and possibly not the best diet when born. Those born to parents who could not look after them have been neglected
