Eligibility requirements to adopt from Mexico
To adopt from Mexico you need to fulfil the requirements of the UK and of Mexico.
To adopt from Mexico prospective adoptive parents must be resident in a country which has ratified the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption (which UK has).
Prospective adoptive parents must be over 25 years if age and at least 17 years older then the child they wish to adopt.
If married only one of the parents must meet the age requirements.
Prospective adoptive parents may be married or single, male or female.
Married same sex couples are currently permitted to adopt form Mexico City (and theoretically in Coahuila)
Unmarried hetro-sexual and unmarried same sex couples may adopt but only one member of the couple will appear on the adoption decree.
Prospective adoptive parents must demonstrate the means to support the physical and educational needs of the child/children with evidence
Mexican adoption procedures include a 1-3 week pre-adoption trial period, where the child/children live with the prospective adoptive parents in Mexico.
There is no restriction on the gender of the child prospective adoptive parents many adopt. Eg a gay couple may adopt children of either gender.
