Changes to Foreign and Commonwealth Office

No more personal applications for legalisation of documents

Decorative photo for New method to legalise documents

The public and business counters at the FCO Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes will be closing on 01 April 2011. After this date, all straight forward applications relating to legalisation in the UK will be processed through a postal service with a 24 hours turnaround (excluding postal times). Our premium business service at Centre Point will remain unchanged.

This change is driven by a desire to give the majority of customers a better more efficient service. Focusing on postal applications will allow processing to be streamlined, and halve the postal processing time to 24 hours.

For business customers who regularly submit large volumes of documents on the same day and who may therefore find postal applications impractical, we will offer a limited drop and collection facility. Further details of the facility and how to register will be published on 1 March 2011.

The most convenient method of payment for all customers is to pay on-line using a debit or credit card.  For an easy step by step guide visit our website at www.fco.gov.uk/legalisation. Customers can also pay by banker’s drafts or postal orders.  Business customers may continue to pay by business cheque but the availability of business customer credits will be discontinued and a cheque per document will need to be submitted.

Documents we can legalise should be posted to the following address:

Legalisation Office
Norfolk House West
437 Silbury Boulevard
Milton Keynes
MK9 2AH
