The Foreign and Commonwealth office has not only stopped their counter service but now they have put up the prices.
FCO to increase fees from 6 April 2011
Chiswick and Hammersmith Notary Public Office announces changes to Legalisation procedure
www.youngedward.co.uk – Edward Young Notary Public announces that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Legalisation Department fees are to increase.
As from 6th April the fee for obtaining an Apostille from the FCO will rise
from £28.80 to £30 for the postal service and from £71 to £75 for the business
counter.
Edward Young Notary Public comments that the postal service fee has
risen by 4% whilst the business counter fee has risen by 5.5%.
As a recap as
to what Apostilles are and what the Legalisation process entails… Many countries
require that the identity and authority of the Notary certified by the State.
This, in effect is the next link in the chain of authentication and in the UK
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) issues a signed and sealed Apostille
for this purpose.
Other countries require an additional level of verification in that they demand consularisation and the document, with Apostille, must go the consulate of the receiving country so that the FCO’s signatures and seals are verified.
